Book review : The Lovely Bones

8 06 2010

‘The Lovely Bones’ is about a 14-year-old girl, Susie Salmon,  who was murdered by someone in her neighbourhood,  a Mr Harvey. This happens on December 6, 1973.

The main story is about Susie’s family coping with her death while trying to find her murderer. No-one suspects Mr Harvey. He remains undetected for a long time, believing he is safe from suspicion.  A while later, Susie’s father, Jack Salmon, starts to notice Mr Harvey acting strangely.

During the whole fallout of her death,  Susie is watching her family from  “The In-Between” , a place in the middle of heaven and Earth. The movie does not end “happily ever after” and you will have to see it yourself to work out why. This movie is full of twists and turns, a must see for everyone.

‘The Lovely Bones’ was originally a book by Alice Sebold. The movie is directed by Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg served as the executive producer. With this combined talent one can only expect a riveting journey.

Saoirse Ronan is Susie Salmon (main character; eldest daughter)

Stanley Tucci is George Harvey (Susie’s murderer)

Mark Wahlberg is Jack Salmon (Susie’s father)

Rachel Weisz is Abigail Salmon (Susie’s Mother)
