New Leaf Kessel’s debut is near

28 10 2009

Sharp shooter Phil Kessel awaits his debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team in excitement. He signed with the team earlier last month and is very excited to be a Leaf. He practiced with the team on October 15 but was limited as he is still recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. He is expected to make his debut sometime in November. Coach Ron Wilson hopes it will be around November 3rd.

Kessel is a 6-0, 192 pound right winger from Madison, Wisconsin. He was taken in first round (5th overall) of the 2006 NHL Draft by the Boston Bruins. He was a 30 + goal scorer last year. That must continue in Toronto for the team to have much success this season. The Leafs only have 1 win in the first 8 games of their season, so they are very eager for Kessel’s arrival to the ice.

Phil Kessel is a young, sharp shooter which the Leafs have been lacking for a few years. Maybe he can help get this team back where it belongs, in the playoffs where they haven’t been in 4 years, and, possibly, a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals, the NHL’s grand final best of 7 series.
