Indonesian Quake Kills 33

At least 33 people died on Wednesday from an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0. The earthquake struck Java Island without warning, 305 people were injured from the quake.

Buildings fell down leaving the dead and injured entombed under shrapnel. “Many houses are flattened to the ground,” said a resident of the small village of Margamukti which is not far from Tasikmalaya.

The earthquake struck less than 200km distance away from Jakarta, the largest city of Indonesia with a depth of 49km.

5000 Indonesians evacuated their Cianjur homes with fear of an aftershock. Most buildings in Cianjur were buried under a landslide.

The most destructed area was Cianjur with 11 people dead, while Jakarta was left with 1 fatality.

A tsunami warning was broadcast across Indonesia but there was none but a 20cm high tsunami in the sea off Tasikmalaya.
