The Worlds Biggest Easter egg

16 09 2009

The small Belgian town of St. Niklaas has entered the Guinness Book of World Records with the biggest Easter egg ever.

Made by the Belgian chocolate producer Guylian, the egg is composed of at least 50.000 bars and weighs 1200kg.  According to the Guinness Book  of World Records, it is the largest chocolate Easter egg in the world.

The egg is a staggering 8.32 metres high, and beats the previous world record of Kwazulu- Natal in South Africa in 1996 (That egg was 7.65 metres high).

It was made by twenty six craftsmen who worked together for approximately 525 hours to build it- they needed 1950 kg of chocolate to make it.

Alderman Urbain Vercauteren of the city of St. Niklaas said the egg wasn’t mean to be eaten (what a shame). He said, “After a week outside in all weather conditions, I don’t think it would be very tasty”.
