In our modern society people’s interpretation of ‘harmless fun’ seems to be pushing the limits of appropriate social conduct, not to mention safety.

Two men have been charged for allegedly holding a machete to their friend’s throat as a ‘practical joke’. The elaborate and prank occurred in the car park outside a busy fast-food restaurant.

The pair, aged 20 and 22, allegedly put on balaclavas and bought food from the restaurant’s drive-through in Werrington, in Western Sydney, about 4pm on Tuesday.

All three men drove away after attempting to scare the people in the restaurant, but police in the area spotted them and began their pursuit.

They were arrested at a nearby shopping centre on Dunheved Road, Werrington.

The three of them explained to the police that it was an agreed joke between them and nobody was in danger. They were charged with public mischief, possession of a knife in a public place and offensive behavior.

The pranksters appear in Penrith Local Court on October 19.
